Sunday morning we had a great time together at the Lakewood Open Door. There were seventeen people in attendance, including five teenagers and one near teenager.
We had a great time singing to the Lord and then discussed the barriers that keep us from all that God has to offer. We talked about fear and how our fear of what God might ask us to do or where He might ask us to go, or who He might ask us to talk with, can keep us from drawing close to Him.
Our discussion led us to recognize that God always has our best interest in mind and would never throw us into something that He hadn't prepared us for. Oh, we might end up in some challenging situations, where we have to rely on God, but He will never leave us or forsake us.
We also talked about how our busy worlds can keep us from intimacy with God. In order to develop a relationship, we have to invest time together with the person. It's the same with God. If we don't invest time in the Bible, in prayer, in quiet time with God, and in fellowship with other Believers, we won't draw close enough to receive all the blessing He has for us.
After our discussion, we took a number of prayer requests and then enjoyed a nice time of corporate prayer. This was followed by a barbeque feast. Our hosts had prepared chicken for the barby and everyone brought side dishes. It was an amazing selection of food and drink. Even more amazing was the conversation. A great time was had by all.
